Michael Feldstein will drive the strategic vision and implementation of the world’s largest nonprofit edtech collaboration dedicated to an open, trusted and innovative edtech ecosystem
BURLINGTON, Mass., September 3, 2024 — Today, 1EdTech® Consortium (1EdTech) announced that Michael Feldstein, an edtech thought leader and consultant, will join the organization as its Chief Strategy Officer.
In this new position, Feldstein will help drive the strategic vision and implementation of an open, trusted and innovative ecosystem of interoperable products and digital credentials by identifying needs and collaboratively developing solutions to increase learning impact with the 1EdTech community.
Feldstein brings more than 30 years of educational technology experience to the organization, most recently as CEO of the Empirical Educator Project, Co-Founder of Argos Education, and Chief Accountability Officer of e-Literate. In those positions, he leveraged his expertise in higher education, user experiences, learning management systems, corporate training and knowledge management to provide analysis, advocacy and collaborative opportunities to educators. Before that, he taught in middle and high school and worked as a consultant in corporate edtech. Now, he will bring that expertise and passion for solving edtech challenges to 1EdTech.
“Michael brings invaluable insights and experience to the 1EdTech community that will bring our vision of an open, trusted and innovative edtech ecosystem closer to reality,” said Curtiss Barnes, 1EdTech CEO. “Our community has done amazing work over the past few decades, and now it’s time to optimize those solutions, identify what needs still exist in the marketplace, and increase learning impact.”
In addition to his new role at 1EdTech, Feldstein will continue to operate the e-Literate website. The Empirical Educator Project will run independently under the 1EdTech umbrella.
“Michael’s deep knowledge of the edtech industry, and well-known strategic approach to discussing its intricacies, will be a great asset to 1EdTech as the continued importance of standards-based interoperability paves the way for future innovation,” said Rick Johnson, VitalSource Technologies Co-Founder and 1EdTech Board Member.
"Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and a future-driven perspective that will complement the 1EdTech team as Curtiss advances the organization's contribution to the education industry,” said Melissa Loble, Instructure Chief Academic Officer and 1EdTech Board Chair. “I look forward to his leadership.”
“I have dedicated my career to clarifying and solving edtech challenges that are poorly defined, poorly understood, or simply unsolved. Joining the 1EdTech community, an organization that has already made a major impact on teaching and learning worldwide, is the perfect opportunity to continue that work,” said Feldstein. “Merging the Empirical Educator Project into 1EdTech is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to bring the insights of that community to the scale and practical impact of 1EdTech.”
