This year, the U.S. Department of Education unveiled the 2024 National Educational Technology Plan (NETP), emphasizing the imperative to bridge digital divides for learners and educators alike. Former 1EdTech CEO Rob Abel considered how 1EdTech can help bridge digital divides.

#1: Five Questions to Ask Before Implementing an AI Tool

As a collaborative, innovative, and forward-thinking organization, 1EdTech members took the challenge of artificial intelligence head-on this year, looking for not just best practices but practical tools that can help educators make decisions around AI and help suppliers provide tools that meet educational needs. We started by releasing 1EdTech’s TrustEd Apps Generative AI Data Rubric. The rubric is designed to serve as an informative and educational tool for suppliers and educators to understand some of the most important questions around privacy and what educators should expect from reliable suppliers.

1EdTech members interested in joining the AI Data Project Group are encouraged to get involved through
1EdTech Community. Institutions looking for additional guidance can access the AI Institutional Preparedness Checklist to start developing responses to AI and initiate conversations within organizations.

#5: New Open Badges 3.0 Standard Provides Enhanced Security and Mobility

The latest version of 1EdTech’s Open Badges standard for digital credentials is now publicly available! The Open Badges 3.0 standard marks a major leap in empowering learners, educators, and employers to recognize lifelong learning with enhanced security, learner ownership, and interoperability. 

#4: TrustEd Credential Coalition

1EdTech's TrustEd Credential Coalition, comprised of senior leaders from higher education, edtech suppliers, and K-12 districts, releases a new metadata framework based on Open Badges 3.0 so organizations can issue verifiable and trusted credentials.

#3: 1EdTech Joins the GDN Network as Signatory

1EdTech Consortium joined the Groningen Declaration Network (GDN) as a signatory, advancing global standards for digital credential mobility! This partnership strengthens efforts to create secure, portable credentials that empower learners and workers worldwide.

If you are interested in digital credentials, register for 1EdTech’s Digital Credentials Summit, which will be held from March 3 to 5 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Makes plans to attend Learning Impact 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana, from June 2 to 5. The call for proposals and registration will open in January.
